Child Therapy Services
Kids don't usually walk in and tell you what's wrong. More often it shows up sideways: a meltdown that seems too big for the moment, a kid who's suddenly avoiding school, a bright child who can't seem to sit still long enough to finish a worksheet. That's not a discipline problem you're failing to solve. It's information. Our job is to help you understand what it's pointing to, and what actually helps.
Silver Lake Psychology offers individual child therapy for ages 8 and up. In-person and telehealth options are available.
What We Help With
Our therapists work with kids and families on:
- Anxiety and depression
- Adjusting to parental separation or divorce
- Behavior that's hard to manage at home or school
- Social skills and peer relationships
- Play therapy for younger and less verbally-inclined kids
If your child is struggling and you're not sure whether it fits neatly into one of these, that's a normal place to start. A first conversation with one of our therapists can help sort out what's actually going on before anyone commits to a specific plan.
Parent Training
Therapy for your child works best when it doesn't stop at the office door. That's why we also offer parent training: structured sessions where you learn specific tools for responding to your child's behavior, communicating through conflict, and reinforcing progress at home. This isn't generic advice. It's built around your child's actual patterns, and it runs alongside their individual therapy, not instead of it.
What to Expect
From the first session, we rely on you and your child for the details, how things developed, what's been tried, what a hard day actually looks like. You're a partner in this, not a bystander. Together with your therapist, you'll set specific goals for treatment, and session frequency will be based on how things are going, not a fixed schedule that doesn't fit your family.
In Person or Telehealth
Some families prefer sitting across from a therapist in one of our offices. Others need the flexibility of a session from home between school pickup and dinner. Both are available, and both get you the same quality of care. You can choose the format that actually works for your schedule, and switch later if your needs change.
Research shows that telehealth is equally as effective. Children can build strong virtual connections with providers using digital tools, interactive drawing, and games However, for children under the age of 8, in-person therapy is recommended.
